Grace Mountainside Church is located in the small, rural town of Robbinsville
in the Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina just south of
the Smoky Mountain National Park. Our scenic beauty, mild climate and
small population attract some to spend summers or retire here.
The Lutheran & Episcopal Fellowship was established to serve Lutherans
and Episcopalians who summered or lived in Graham County. Even though
we are identified as Grace Episcopal Church and Mountainside Lutheran
Church, we are one Christian congregation, not two.
We celebrate Holy Communion each Sunday at 11:00am.
We use Holy Communion, Setting Two, with sung responses, psalm and hymns
from the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship on most second and fourth Sundays.
We use The Holy Eucharist: Rite Two with sung responses and
psalm from The Book of Common Prayer, 1979 and sing hymns from
The Hymnal 1982 on most first and third Sundays.
We are blessed with a liturgical richness few congregations,
large or small, may enjoy.
Episcopalians participate fully on "Lutheran" Sundays and
Lutherans participate fully on "Episcopal" Sundays. All baptised
Christians are invited to share with us and receive Holy Communion.
Episcopalians do not sit on one side of the aisle and Lutherans
on the other. In fact, if you asked members to identify who is
Lutheran and who is Episcopalian at Grace Mountainside Church,
most would not know. We've been worshipping together like this
since 1982, while the Lutheran-Episcopal dialogue was still in its youth.
Lay people are encouraged to participate in the liturgy at each of
our worship services. Opportunites to participate in worship services
include reading Holy Scripture lessons, leading the prayers, performing
during the Offertory and administering the chalice. A Lutheran may read
Scripture lessons on "Episcopal" Sundays and an Episcopalian may
administer the chalice on "Lutheran" Sundays.
Lutheran Synod of North Carolina Bishop Bolick and Episcopal Diocese of
Western North Carolina Bishops Weinhauer, Johnson and Taylor have visited
and celebrated at Grace Mountainside Church Lutheran & Episcopal Fellowship
signifying our connectedness to the broader Church and the world.
We have a number of fully active members of Grace Mountainside Church
who are neither Lutheran nor Episcopalian. Those who prefer not to be
affiliated with either the Lutheran Church or the Episcopal Church may
join Grace Mountainside Church as Associate Members. We truly offer a
Christian "home" for everyone.
We invite you to come worship our Lord, Jesus Christ, with us in a caring
and ecumenically oriented congregation where you will seldom experience
denominational pride or prejudice. Whenever you are in Robbinsville or
Graham County, NC, know that you will be welcomed at Grace Mountainside
Church a Lutheran & Episcopal Fellowship.
And after the worship please plan to stay for refreshments and fellowship!
