Old Business: Greg Anderson talked with Pastor Andres about visiting members in the hospital, nursing homes, and shut-ins. Updated lists will be given to Pastor Andres.
New Business: A. Annual reports from committees are due anytime now. B. Discussion was held on whether we need a post office box downtown at the Post Office for security reasons. C. Workman’s comp for Pastor’s accident was discussed. Since Pastor fell on city property Greg Anderson will check with the city on whose insurance is responsible to pay for the medical bills.
The next meeting will be January 14, 2003 at 7:00 pm sharp.
Communion assistants for December 15 & 24 are Melody Anderson and Greg Anderson. Communion assistants for January 12 & 26 are Dale Collis and Evelyn Troline.
Adjournment – A motion for adjournment was made by Tim Thuline and seconded by Greg Anderson. The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer led by Greg Anderson.

Pastor’s Report – Pastor Andres reported that she will begin new member classes again for anyone interested in joining the church. More information will follow with dates and times. Pastor Andres was asked by Life Line Screening to use Messiah Lutheran Church basement to hold a screening for the Galva community in January. Dale Collis moved and Evelyn Troline seconded the motion to accept this request for use of our facility after being assured of the legality of the company.
Old Business – Pastor Andres met with Pastor Hunt on Monday. At a later date Pastor Hunt is interested in coming to our church to discuss job descriptions and responsibilities of the church council and committee members.
New Business – An estimate of $46,032 was given on repair and maintenance of the church pipe organ. The last updates were in 1963. It was decided to table this until a later date. A copy of the Messiah Lutheran Church Constitution was given to each council member. A copy will be given to each committee chairman and then 40 or 50 extra copies will be made for members to read and return to the church for other members to read. The new constitution will be voted on at the annual meeting in January.
The next meeting will be November 12th at 7:00 pm sharp. Devotions will be offered by Pastor Andres.

Pastor's Report - Pastor will talk to council members and committee members regarding some proposed changes in committee responsibilities. Pastor is reviewing communion assistants and ushers responsibilities - tabled until next meeting. Pastor reported on a letter written by the Northern Illinois Synod regarding an upcoming meeting.

New Business
Choir Director's resignation - motion to accept made by Tim Thuline, seconded by Dale Collis. Resignation accepted.
Wedding Policy Brochure - motion to accept made by Carolyn Bergstrom, seconded by Elin Stephan. Brochure accepted as written.
September 29th "Silk Chords" singing group will perform in church. Motion to pay group $100 made by Carolyn Bergstrom, seconded by Tim Thuline. Motion passed.
Nursery discussed - responsibility delegated to Sarah Circle.

Pastor Andres opened the meeting with a prayer.

Jack Down from the Mutual Ministry Committee was a special guest and reported on the progress of that committee. He handed out a job description for the Administrative Assistant (Church Secretary). This was discussed and amendments made. Tim Thuline mad ea motion to accept the Administrative Assistant job description as amended. Elin Stephan seconded the motion. The motion carried. Job descriptions for all paid staff members will be written and completed in the next few months.

Committee Reports - We will no longer hold committee night meetings together but each individual committee is encouraged to decide the best date and time for them to meet. We encourage anyone who has not been on a committee and would like to help to call the church office or a member of one of the committees.

Pastor reported that she will have staff meetings after church during fellowship time since this works out better for everyone.
Old Business
Love Unlimited, a spiritual group from Geneseo, will be sharing their talents in music and Christian worship on August 18th during our Sunday morning service. Tim Thuline made a motion to donate $100 to them, seconded by Dale Collis. Motion carried.
August 25th will be Worship in the Park and our church picnic. Members are to bring a lawn chair for worship. The council will supply meat and drinks for the picnic. Members are to bring a dish to share and their own table service. Special music that morning during the service will be provided by Betty Nelle Whitman's granddaughter and great granddaughter.
September 1st Kris Engelsen will bring the message for worship. Sean Collis will bring special music that day. Julie Beeler and Janet Engelsen will be assisting with the service.
Rally Day will be Sept. 8th. Sunday school will start that day with special activities planned for the children. After church on Sept. 8th there will be a brunch honoring all new members and newly baptized members from the last year and a half. The Evangelism Committee and the Sarah Circle will be in charge of the brunch. We hope all members will attend this special event.
New Business
A letter was read from the family of Edna Robbins. They would like to place a bench and a plaque in the Memorial Garden under the pin oak tree in memory of their mother, Edna Robbins. Dale Collis made a motion to accept this memorial for Edna Robbins. Greg Anderson seconded this motion. The motion carried.
Communion assistants for September will be Carolyn Bergstrom and Jerry Anderson. Communion ushers are Evelyn Troline, Elin Stephan, Greg Anderson, and Melody Anderson.
A letter was received from the Southwest Conference concerning the general fund and the special mission fund. Tim Thuline moved we send $100.98 to the general fund and to evaluate giving to the special mission fund through a budget item. Jerry Anderson seconded the motion. The motion carried.
The proceeds from the Pork Chop Supper were discussed. Tim Thuline moved to donate $100 to the 4th of July Committee and $100 to the Galva Food Pantry as appreciation for their support of the Pork Chop Supper. Dale Collis seconded the motion. The motion carried.
The next council meeting will be Sept. 10th at 7:00 pm.

7. Old Business
A duplicator has been purchased for the church office from R.J. Dixon Company. Bulletins have been duplicated on the machine the last two Sundays. Use of the duplicator is restricted to Pastor and the church secretary only. The use of the copy machine is also restricted to office staff only. If someone needs some copies run they should leave the paper to be copied with a note in the church office telling how many copies are needed and Sharon will run them off for you. Copies are restricted to church business only. Personal copies will have a charge of $.15 cents per copy. The church is charged a fee by the company for each copy run on the machine.

Members are reminded to use the calendar in the church basement to post any activities that are going on at the church so the custodians will know when the church is being used.
8. New Business
Staff meetings will begin in September. Meetings will be planned for each salaried staff member to go over job descriptions.
The newsletter for July and August will be combined this year in one mailing. The deadline for the newsletter is June 17th.
The Treasurer for the congregation, Bob Thuline, will pay bills as stated in the church constitution. The council also decided that Sharon Love will continue as Financial Secretary. This will be a more accurate account of checks and balances.
While Pastor Andres is on vacation we will have John Bachman here on July 6 & 7 to conduct the service and on July 13 & 14 Pastor Phil Laurin will conduct the service. In case of emergency, members should contact Greg Anderson or Sharon Love.
The Pork Chop Dinner will be held at Wiley Park on July 3rd from 5-7pm. Chops have been ordered and there is a sign-up sheet for pies and cakes.

Copy machine / duplicator discussed. Pastor and Sharon are getting / have gotten estimates. Their first choice is a duplicator and perhaps a desk top copier to handle those copies that aren't efficient to run on the duplicator. Motion made by Carolyn Bergstrom to pursue purchase of a duplicator per Sharon's and Pastor's recommendations, seconded by Tim Thuline.
NW Conference Spring Assembly April 21st at Messiah - thanks to all who volunteered.
Confirmation April 28th - many thanks to Melody for organizing the reception and to Dale for getting the plaques.
May 12th - Women of Faith - thanks to those who served.
Website - Lara Medley brought papers for pastor to sign. She will write something for newsletter concerning the status of the website.
8. New Business
May 19th - new members received. Pastor presented names: Linda Anderson Nelson; Kris, Mike, Brady, Collin and Laurin Landis; Jeanine, Greg, Nolan and Devin Peterson; Vicki Conner, and Joe Conner (transfer). The council unanimously welcomes these new members.
June Synod Assembly - 2 delegates needed.

Committee chairs are to make an appointment with Pastor to discuss committees.
