Pastor Bjerke grew up on a farm near Slayton,Minnesota. He graduated from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. He attended Luther Seminary in St.Paul,MN where he earned a Masters degree in Theology and Parish Ministry. His Ph.D. was earned at Biblical Seminary in New York City and in Glendale and completed in 1975. His first two parishes were at Lake Andes and Beresford,S.Dakota. He came to Our Saviour's Lutheran in Long Beach in 1953 and then spent 7 years in Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran in Whittier before retiring in 1984. Since retirement he has served as an Interim Pastor in Los Angeles, Corona del Mar, Long Beach, Bellflower, Lakewood, La Habra before coming to Westminster.
